Is It Acne Vulgaris Or Acne Rosacea
It can be difficult to tell the difference between acne vulgaris and acne rosacea because they have similar symptoms. They can also both occur on the nose. Still, these are two very different conditions.
Acne vulgaris is related to pimples, blackheads, cysts, and other forms of acne, whereas acne rosacea is a type of rosacea. Its also possible to have both acne vulgaris and acne rosacea at the same time.

You’re Not Washing Your Face And Pillowcase Enough
During the day, dirt, oil, makeup, and grime build up on the skin. If you don’t wash your face before you go to sleep, all of that garbage then gets transferred to your pillowcase, which gets transferred back to your face again. Board-certified dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, says long-term exposure of your skin to this type of soiling, along with the friction of the face rubbing against the pillowcase, may promote inflammation and acne breakouts. But that’s not all! An oily environment may be a breeding ground for bacteria that can infect the skin if there are any raw or open areasone of the many acne causes.

Cystic Acne Of The Neck
Cystic acne of the neck is often caused when the skin of the neck is in some ways too healthy. It grows over pores before they get a chance to drain, and the immune system attacks the trapped acne bacteria with inflammation that causes the formation of a cyst.
Picking, probing, needling, lancing, cold treatments, and heat treatments all make this kind of neck acne worse.
The only practical treatment that you can get over-the-counter is tretinoin topical, also known as Renova. Hairstyling Products That Touch Your Skin Can Contribute To Acne
Breakouts caused by hair-care products are so common that theres a name for them: pomade acne.
Styling products seep oil onto the forehead, which can trap acne-causing bacteria in your pores, says Richard Fried, MD, PhD, the director of Yardley Dermatology Associates in Yardley, Pennsylvania, and the author of the book Healing Adult Acne.

How Can I Prevent Breakouts
Like most things in life, acne is not always completely in ones control. There are, however, some key tips we offer to help prevent breakouts:
- Never go to bed with makeup on.
- Check labels: when purchasing cosmetic and skincare products, always look for the terms “non-comedogenic,” “oil-free,” or “wont clog pores.”
- Avoid facial oils and hair products that contain oil.
- Some acne spots are not actually acne but are post-inflammatory pigment changes from previous acne lesions or from picking at acne or pimples. Wear sunscreen with SPF 30+ daily, rain or shine, to prevent darkening of these spots.
There is some evidence that specific dietary changes may help reduce the risk of acne. For example, one meta-analysis of 14 observational studies that included nearly 80,000 children, adolescents, and young adults showed a link between dairy products and increased risk of acne. And some studies have linked high-glycemic-index foods and acne.
With that said, its important to be wary of misinformation about nutrition and skin. As physicians, we seek scientifically sound and data-driven information the evidence on the relationship between diet and acne is just starting to bloom. In the future, the effect of diet on acne may be better understood.
