When using face oils on acne prone skin, its important to include other products in your skin care regimen to help balance oil production and keep your skin hydrated. A gentle toner, from rose water or witch hazel, applied before an oil treatment can enhance the effects of the oils by allowing more effective absorption, and will also help to cleanse and freshen up the skin for a healthier complexion. Make sure to choose a non-drying toner so avoid products with alcohol, a common ingredient in skin care products.
While some essential oils can be applied directly to the skin, we always recommend diluting essential oils in a carrier oil prior to application. Sweet Almond oil and Jojoba Oils are great options for acne prone skin.

Best Essential Oil For Acne
Finding what essential oil is good for acne is a process unique to each person. Skin type, sensitivity levels, and the kind of pimples you have factor into determining the best essential oils for acne treatment. The following are the most common and effective essential oils for healing and preventing pimples and blemishes.
Lavender Oil For Acne
Using lavender essential oil for acne is one of the most popular natural remedies for irritated skin. Recent scientific research has helped shed light on why lavender is a good essential oil for blemishes.
In a 2013 study, researchers tested the effectiveness of lavender essential oil on a bacterium commonly found in acne. Results showed that diluted lavender oil was a strong inhibitor of bacteria growth.3

Heres How To Perform A Patch Test:
- Topically apply a small amount of tea tree oil to the inside of the elbow.
- Allow at least 24 hours before washing off.
- The oil is probably safe for application elsewhere if you dont register any sort of discomfort or irritation within this time.
The manner in which you use the oil will often depend on the kind of product purchased. Before you can use a pure essential oil form, for instance, youll want to dilute it with a carrier oil. An ounce of carrier oil is recommended for every 12 drops of essential oil. You can get the best results by using this essential oil for the entire body, applying twice daily.
While the use of too much tea tree oil can often cause irritation, it can be extremely beneficial if used in the right concentrations. Remember, acne scars can take as much as several months to fade. So dont try to make your scars fade faster, at least not by overusing tea tree oil. This could, in the end, make the scars more noticeable.
How Fast Do They Work
While there is little research on how quickly essential oils perform, in one recent 12-week study, tea tree oil applied twice daily significantly reduced the severity of mild-to-moderate acne after 8 weeks. Further improvements were seen in the last 4 weeks.
Anecdotal reports suggest the application of these oils can provide a mild but noticeable reduction in acne severity after as little as 1 week significantly more time is typically needed for greater results.

How Essential Oils Work
Because essentials oils are extracted directly from the bark, flower, fruit, leaf, seed, or root of a plant or tree, and then distilled, they are highly concentrated. Just a few drops can have incredible benefits. The benefits of essential oils come from their antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown essential oils to help prevent bacterial infections, improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety, and fight acne-causing bacteria. There are three primary ways to use essential oils: applied to the skin, inhaled, or ingested. If youre applying them directly to the skin, test a small drop on the inside of your wrist first to see if you have a reaction to it, recommends Hope Gillerman, founder of H. Gillerman Organics and author of Essential Oils Every Day. Whether youve run out of options for treating your skin or are just looking for a more holistic route, there are several essential oils that can help treat acne.
How To Use Rosemary Essential Oil For Acne
To use rosemary essential oil, dilute 3-4 drops of rosemary essential oil into a teaspoon of carrier oil, such as melted coconut or jojoba oil, and massage into the affected area. You can also use it to make a great acne-fighting body wash. To do so, make a paste by mixing ¾ cup of ground oatmeal, ½ cup of green tea, and ½ cup of rose water. Then add six drops of rosemary essential oil to your paste and apply it to your body instead of using soap to cool and soothe inflamed acne, as well as fighting bacteria that can clog pores.

It Can Reduce Oil Production
Tea tree essential oil can dissolve sebum in clogged pores, but its usefulness regarding oil production may extend beyond this. Some non-clinical studies show that it can affect certain hormone functioning.
Why does this matter? Hormonal breakouts appear whenever testosterone increases, as it often leads to increased oil production in the skin. The research suggests that tea tree oil may help suppress this action, and thus oil creation. However, more study is needed .
The essential oils action has a drawback, because it also stimulates estrogen production. Because of this, using tea tree essential oil may be feminizing, meaning it can decrease hair growth and stimulate breast tissue growth.

Although there are plenty of skincare products with green tea in the market, it is pretty easy to make a natural skin remedy.
Pour green tea in a tin of boiling water for 3-4minutes. Then allow it to cool and apply it to your face with a cotton ball. You can apply before bedtime and leave it overnight or in the morning for ten minutes. Store it in the refrigerator for freshness and use it once or twice a day.

Why Are They Better
Truth is, if the skin is damaged or treated harshly, you will notice negative side effects such as the increase or re-appearance of acne. This is especially so for sensitive skin but true for all skin types .
Unfortunately, many traditional acne products ignore this fact in favor of immediate results. Acne often returns because the skin is being irritated and damaged with harsh chemicals such as too-high concentrations of benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
At Exposed Skin Care, we recognize the importance of gentle essential oils, and therefore we include them in all our products. The Exposed 3-step system available in our Basic Kit wont clear your acne in three days, but it may help keep your skin clear for good. No skincare company utilizes all kinds of ingredients to develop the best possible formula for treating acne like we do.

Jojoba As Carrier Oil
If you run out of your essential oils, or if you just dont feel like using essential oils today, never fear, because the jojoba oil acne treatment works well all on its own.
To moisturize your skin, simply take a dime-sized amount of jojoba oil, rub it between your hands and gently apply it to your skin, then immediately rinse with lukewarm water .
Jojoba oil is composed largely of a fatty acid called eicosenoic acid, which closely resembles the oil our skin produces. Applying a thin layer can be protective and result in smoother, softer skin.
Finally, jojoba oil can also help heal wounds, making it a great spot treatment for acne as well. Applying a drop of it to a painful pimple or cyst may actually help it heal faster, which will also decrease the likelihood of its leaving an acne scar.
