How Should Children And Pregnant Women Be Treated
The treatment of acne in children is similar to that in adults. Because topical therapies may be more irritating in children, initiation with low concentrations is preferred. Systemic treatments should be reserved for more extensive cases. Erythromycin is preferred over tetracyclines for children under nine years of age, because tetracyclines can affect growing cartilage and teeth.
Although treatment with isotretinoin has numerous potential minor side effects in patients of all ages, an uncommon complication in young patients is premature epiphyseal closure. This generally occurs when isotretinoin is administered in high doses, thus limiting long-term therapy.
Selecting appropriate treatment in pregnant women can be challenging because many acne therapies are teratogenic all topical and especially oral retinoids should be avoided. Oral therapies such as tetracyclines and antiandrogens are also contraindicated in pregnancy. Topical and oral treatment with erythromycin may be considered.

Should You Use Hydrogen Peroxide On Your Skin
It is not recommended to use this solution on your skin. Acne-causing bacteria and an overproduction of sebum can both contribute to acne breakouts. Hydrogen peroxide can effectively kill this bacteria and dry up the excess oil , but not without consequences.
Hydrogen peroxide has been a long-established home remedy for cleaning out minor wounds because of its antibacterial properties. However, health authorities no longer recommend using it as it is now believed to irritate or damage healthy skin cells.
While its true that hydrogen peroxide can kill live cells, such as bacteria, it can also kill beneficial skin cells. Some of these beneficial skin cells, such as fibroblasts, are found in connective tissue and aid in wound repair and maintaining the health of this tissue.
Another type of skin cell called a neutrophil actually produces hydrogen peroxide. Research has shown that people with acne also have more hydrogen peroxide in their neutrophils than people who dont. This indicates that hydrogen peroxide may actually be related to inflammation.
Can Hand Sanitizer Kill Acne Bacteria
In theory, the antibacterial and antimicrobial effects of rubbing alcohol could be helpful for acne treatment. This is especially the case for inflammatory acne, which is often caused by P. acnes bacteria. Inflammatory breakouts consist of nodules, papules, and pustules, as well as hard-to-get-rid-of cysts.

Coconut Oil May Have Antimicrobial Properties
Coconut oil is pretty amazing, actually. Coconut oil is high in many free fatty acids, specifically lauric acid.
Lauric acid has natural antimicrobial properties. Studies have shown that lauric acid can kill propionibacteria acnes, the main bacteria responsible for causing acne.
Some research has been done on whether lauric acid might be used as an acne treatment. Although initial results look promising, it’s still a way off.

What Are The Complications Of Cystic Acne
Opening up acne cysts by popping or picking them increases the risk of scarring and bacterial skin infections like cellulitis.
Some people develop pigment changes spots at the site of the acne cyst after the skin clears up. These spots may be pink, purple, red, black or brown. They eventually fade away, but it may take more than a year.
Can Someone With Acne Give You Acne
Having close contact with people who have acne wont give you acne. Acne cant be contracted through ordinary contact with people who have a skin disease. Unlike other infectious diseases, acne cannot be contracted by hanging around the infected person too.
You can peacefully hang out, play, touch someone who has acne. Acne is a skin disease that most people develop on their own, without being infected by someone else.
However, although not transferable, there are some precautions you should take. For example, sharing a makeup brush with someone with acne may result in acne. The reason is that bacteria responsible for acne may be transferred from the skin to the brush. Hence, using the same brush on healthy skin may trigger a breakout. So, do not share a makeup brush with someone with acne to reduce the chances of having a breakout.

Zinc is an essential nutrient thats important for cell growth, hormone production, metabolism, and immune function.
Its relatively well studied compared with other natural treatments for acne.
Research indicates that people with acne tend to have lower levels of zinc in their blood than those with clear skin .
Several studies have also shown that taking zinc orally may help reduce acne.
For example, a 2014 review found that zinc is more effective at treating severe and inflammatory acne than treating moderate acne .
The optimal dosage of zinc for acne has not been established, but several older studies have observed a significant reduction in acne using 3045 mg of elemental zinc per day .
Elemental zinc refers to the amount of zinc thats present in the compound. Zinc is available in many forms, and they contain varying amounts of elemental zinc.
Things To Try When Acne Wont Clear
The following tips from dermatologists can help you get started.
1. Give an acne treatment at least 4 weeks to work.Using a new acne product every few days may seem useful, but that approach can worsen acne. Acne treatment needs time to work. Using a different product every few days can also irritate your skin, causing new breakouts.
If a treatment works for you, you should notice some improvement in 4 to 6 weeks. It can take two to three months or longer to see clearing.
If you notice improvement, keep using the treatment. Even when you see clearing, you’ll want to keep using the acne treatment. This helps to prevent new breakouts.
When to see a dermatologist about acne?
Seeing a dermatologist can help prevent acne from worsening. You can benefit from seeing a dermatologist when acne:
Causes acne cysts and nodules
Hasnt cleared with treatment you can buy without a prescription
Makes you feel uncomfortable, and you want clearer skin
2. Attack the different causes of acne.If you dont see improvement after 4 to 6 weeks, add a second acne product to your treatment plan.
This approach can help attack the different causes of acne. Bacteria, clogged pores, oil, and inflammation can all cause acne.
Benzoyl peroxide decreases P. acnes bacteria
Retinoids, such as adapalene gel, unclog pores and reduce oiliness
Salicylic acid eases inflammation and unclogs pores
Won’t clog pores

What Is Blue Light Therapy
Blue light therapy is a non-invasive FDA-approved treatment that is one of the wavelengths in LED Light Therapy. LED Light Therapy is a treatment harnessing different wavelengths of light to enhance skin condition. You can choose between red light, blue light, or infrared depending on your skin condition.
Blue light therapy, also known as BLT, penetrates deep in the pores to kill acne-causing bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes. Also known as P acnes, they are responsible for pore inflammation and promote rapid oil production. They are sensitive to blue light and are eliminated in the course of the therapy. The added heat from the blue light causes oil glands to shrink in size resulting in less oil production in the skin.

Start with a benzoyl peroxide body wash:
Nearly all of the dermatologists cited benzoyl peroxide body wash as their top suggestion for clearing bacne, since it aggressively kills the bacteria that cause you to break out back there. But be warned: It can stain your towels and clothing, so rinse thoroughly when done, and maybe wear a white t-shirt to bed afterwards.

The bane of a teenagers life and among the most common skin conditions, acne vulgaris, is far from superficial. Rather, deep within the skin, four key elements are at play: androgens activate the sebaceous gland to overproduce oily sebum dead skin cells lining the pores dont shed properly, clogging up the hair follicle opening the commensal bacterium Propionibacterium acnes proliferates and immune chemicals are released causing inflammation. On the skins surface, blackheads and whiteheads , papules and pus-filled spots erupt .
Acne usually starts in teenagers and can persist into adulthood, with up to half of women and 40% of men affected. The severity varies widely from person to person. Besides permanent scarring, the condition, which affects around 650 million people worldwide, can lead to anxiety and depression.
There is no cure, and available treatments have significant drawbacks, yet there have been no novel products launched over the past 10 years innovation is long overdue.

Studies On Fighting Bacteria
When it comes to killing bacteria that triggers acne, Benzoyl Peroxide serves as the most effective topical treatment. According to a research published in the Journal of Clinical & Aesthetic Dermatology, Benzoyl Peroxide is being used for acne treatment for five decades due to its remarkable ability to reduce acne lesions.
This is because unlike any other anti-biotic treatment that alters bacterial structure or specific enzymes it is directly toxic to pimple-causing bacteria. But the problem is that Benzoyl Peroxide can irritate skin.
As published in this study, 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide is the right concentration for the treatment of acne vulgaris. But those who have sensitive skin should opt for 1% concentration as they might suffer from itching or burning sensation.
However, a few years back researchers came up with a natural alternative of Benzoyl Peroxide- Thyme Herb. Since, the use of Benzoyl Peroxide in the long-term causes skin drying and skin sensitivity the need of a natural substitute was there.
A research presented at the Society for General Microbiology in Dublin tested thyme, marigold and myrrh in alcohol to create a tincture. When this tincture was applied on the acne bacteria, it had a strong anti-bacterial effect out of which thyme was the most potent.
Should I Just Leave My Acne Alone
When acne is popped or squeezed improperly, it may transform into a permanent scar or spot. However, if you let it disappear on its own with a few home remedies, it wont leave any scars. Severe acne should be medically treated to avoid permanent scars or spots. However, all acne is treatable. It is just about finding a suitable treatment.

Also, popping a pimple can make the acne spread from the infected skin to other parts of the skin. Apart from this, squeezing or popping will also delay the healing process of acne.
In essence, when the acne breakout is not severe, leave it and let it run its due course. However, if you suspect a severe form, you should check it out as it could be a symptom of an underlying condition.

Can Blue Light Therapy Actually Help Kill Acne
Acne is a skin condition that can persist even in adulthood and occurs when your hair follicles become blocked with oil, dead skin, and bacteria. It can bothersome especially when it appears in visible areas like the face. While there are many oral and topical treatments for it, some cases may be worse than others.
Fortunately, doctors have developed several treatments and therapies to work on special acne cases. One of the most effective is blue light therapy. It is a safe light-based treatment that stimulates your skin cells to fight off acne.
In this article, we will explore more about Blue Light Therapy and whether it is effective in killing acne-causing bacteria.
Acne Bacteria Dont Cause Acne
Most of the time the acne bacterium Propionibacterium acnes is a natural fixture on human skin. The skin makes an oil called sebum to keep it flexible and lubricated. The skin produces extra sebum when the skin is stressed. This production of extra oil can be part of a generalized reaction of the entire body to stress, or it can be part of a specialized reaction with the skin to stressors that only affect the skin itself, such as allergens, irritant chemicals, rubbing, or heat.
Acne bacteria feed on sebum, but they are only naturally active when there is too much sebum on the skin. When fresh sebum is overabundant, acne bacteria have an abundance of food. As sebum production declines, stale sebum begins to release essential fatty acids. These are useful for the skins health, but toxic to acne bacteria. Most of the time acne infections are self-limiting. They are only a problem when the passage of oil and bacteria to the surface of the skin, where they can both be washed away, is blocked by tightening of the skin or hardening of sebum.
Mashing or squeezing pimples presses bacteria into the skin so that healthy skin traps them inside the skin for good. The result is replacing pimples with nodules and cysts.

Whats New In Treating Acne
Trials are being conducted with currently available therapies, in different strengths and combinations. Combining an allylamine antifungal agent with benzoyl peroxide may prove to enhance the effectiveness of benzoyl peroxide in treating acne while preventing antibiotic resistance. Topical dapsone 5% gel is a newer option for treating acne. A large multicentre randomized controlled trial in adolescents with acne found that when the gel was applied twice daily on the affected areas, 40% of the treatment group and 28% of the placebo group achieved the desired outcome at 12 weeks. The same trial and an additional study found that topical dapsone 5% gel is a safe treatment option in patients with a deficiency in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
More studies are needed to resolve the long-standing controversy about the role of diet and acne. As well, further direct treatment comparison and long-term trials are needed to determine the optimal sequence of treatment selection as well as to establish the effects on quality of life and long-term efficacy.
