But If You Must Pop A Pimple Do It The Right Way
Even though every dermatologist ever will tell you not to pop, we get it: sometimes you just can’t resist squeezing it, especially when it’s ready to blow. So, if you are determined to take matters into your own hands, these are the doctor’s orders on how to go about it: Start with clean hands, use cotton tipped applicators or a comedone extractor, and apply antibiotic ointment post-popping.
Using The Wrong Skincare Products
What you’re doing wrong
Using hygiene products that are not suitable for your skin type can actually wreak havoc on your skin. Besides, if youre someone who switches products quite frequently, note that this habit can actually cause a lot of harm to your skin. The ingredients in every new product can irritate your skin and cause pimples and breakouts. Moreover, greasy, oil-based makeup can also cause pimples.
How to fix it
Stick a particular brand once youve found something that suits your skin. Make sure your skin gets to breathe. Refrain from always using makeup to cover up the acne. In case you cant do without makeup, use water-based cosmetics instead. Always look for natural products since chemicals can cause an acne breakout.
Follow A Healthy Skin Diet
What you eat has a direct impact on your skin, so try to focus your diet around foods that prevent acne rather than trigger it.
Common dietary triggers for acne include things like processed carbohydrates, refined sugar, high-glycemic foods, dairy products and fried or fatty foods. Learn more about the foods that might cause acne.
Generally speaking, foods that raise your blood sugar can cause your skin to produce more oil, increasing the risk for a breakout. When you eat sugary and high-carb foods, your blood sugar level rises which triggers the pancreas to produce a hormone called insulin.
Insulin enables your cells to absorb glucose from the bloodstream, but excess insulin can cause the sebaceous glands in your skin to produce excess oil.
The healthiest foods for your skin are complex carbohydrates , colorful fruits and veggies, leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes. Antioxidants are particularly beneficial for skin health and foods with anti-inflammatory properties can be beneficial as well.
First and foremost, dont touch it!
As tempting as it may be to pop that pimple, doing so can actually force the pus and bacteria deeper into your skin, increasing inflammation and making your blemish worse.
The best thing you can do is keep your face clean and wait for it to pass. You can also try using a 5% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream to dry it out a little faster.

Medically reviewed by Katelyn Hagerty, FNP
So You have a pimple, and you want it gone. Do you pop it? Do you pick it?

It makes sense: speed up the process, squeeze out the sebum, and get rid of it faster. But picking and popping pimples is actually bad for your skin for a number of reasons.
Unless youre a dermatologist, youre probably not the person who should be pushing, picking, prodding or in any way touching your breakouts.

Do Certain Foods Cause Acne
For the most part, hormonal changes in the body drive acne. There is some evidence that skim milk, whey protein and diets high in sugar may cause acne breakouts, although this remains controversial.
Eating a balanced, nutritious diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially those rich with vitamin C and beta carotene, helps reduce inflammation. There is also some evidence that eating fish can help.
Try Medications Proven To Combat Acne
If you experience frequent breakouts, using medication may help. But which ingredients should you look for?
Here are some of the top prescription acne medications you can try:
A type of retinoid, tretinoin offers comedolytic properties, helping to unclog pores, boost cell growth and balance sebum production.
Typically used in a 20 percent concentration, azelaic acid offers anti-inflammatory benefits and can be used to treat moderate acne.
One of the most common ingredients in acne creams and gels, benzoyl peroxide helps kill acne-causing bacteria and dries active breakouts. It comes in 2.5%, 5% and 10% concentrations.
Similar to benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid is a slightly safer option that treats acne without overly drying or damaging the skin it also has keratolytic properties which help to exfoliate the blemish.
An antibacterial agent, sulfur reduces inflammation and dries out the pimple to shrink it. It is milder than benzoyl peroxide.
Even if you choose to purchase an over-the-counter acne medication or prescription medication, you should still consult your healthcare provider or dermatologist. Most medications come in different strengths and using the wrong concentration could dry out your skin too much and make your acne worse.

Why Do I Get Acne
Acne is an inflammatory skin problem caused by one or more of three things:
- Plugging of hair follicles
- Hormonal fluctuations that cause the body to secret excess oil
- Bacterial infection that causes inflammation
Acne severity can range from blackheads and whiteheads to cysts.
Nearly 85 percent of people between the ages of 12 and 24 experience acne. Why some people have severe breakouts while others barely have a pimple is not entirely clear. But genetics and environmental influences clearly play a role.
How To Prevent Acne
Adequate nutrition with sufficient vitamins and minerals is at the heart of prevention. Food is not good or bad, but we recommend you watch your diet and introduce more vegetables, useful fats, and carbohydrates and limit sugar.
For your comprehensive skincare, it is necessary to use acne cream. It consists of tea tree oil, vitamin E, aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, and other organic healthy ingredients that bring purity and beauty to your skin.
Often the scars from the swallows are as disturbing as the acne itself and this cream carefully reduces their appearance.
It removes slightly the top layer of skin cells, as well as the dead skin of the problem area.
Besides the aesthetic part, the cream heals and restores the cells, cleanses the pores, giving the skin glow and smoothness.
Skincare must take into account that pimples cannot be squeezed: it will only drive the bacteria deeper into the pores and a more dangerous infection may develop. Apply an ice cube to the inflammation, apply a drug that contains salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or sulfur.
In the fight against pimples, do not increase the number of washings. The skin requires natural fat to maintain moisture and elasticity, and frequent washing deprives it of this fat, which it will seek to restore by doubling its production. Washing must be done no more than 2 times a day using special means.

Properly Wash Your Face
To help prevent pimples, its important to remove excess oil, dirt, and sweat daily. Washing your face too much may make acne worse, however.
When we strip our skin of its natural sebum with excess washing, it actually causes the skin to produce even more oil in order to rebalance your skin, says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Anar Mikailove, MD. Thus, washing your face excessively can indeed make acne worse, as does using cleansers or astringents that dry out the skin too much.
Mikailove suggests using cleansers that are sulfate-free, fragrance-free, and gentle enough for twice-daily use, rather than using harsh physical scrubs or drying foaming cleansers.

How Should Children And Pregnant Women Be Treated
The treatment of acne in children is similar to that in adults. Because topical therapies may be more irritating in children, initiation with low concentrations is preferred. Systemic treatments should be reserved for more extensive cases. Erythromycin is preferred over tetracyclines for children under nine years of age, because tetracyclines can affect growing cartilage and teeth.
Although treatment with isotretinoin has numerous potential minor side effects in patients of all ages, an uncommon complication in young patients is premature epiphyseal closure. This generally occurs when isotretinoin is administered in high doses, thus limiting long-term therapy.
Selecting appropriate treatment in pregnant women can be challenging because many acne therapies are teratogenic all topical and especially oral retinoids should be avoided. Oral therapies such as tetracyclines and antiandrogens are also contraindicated in pregnancy. Topical and oral treatment with erythromycin may be considered.
