Who Gets Cystic Acne
Cystic acne is most likely to appear in teens, but this is not always the case. There have been reports of the cysts appearing in children as young as 8 years old, as well as in older adults. Dr. Shamban suggests trying the over-the-counter options for about two months. If they don’t start working in that time, head to the dermatologist.
“If you’re upset about it, then get it taken care of sooner rather than later,” she says. “That’s the thing about skin problems, there are treatments that work.”

What Is A Blind Pimple
Blind pimples are inflamed cysts that develop beneath your skin and have no connection to the surface of your skin. Since theyre so deep, blind pimples often have a little-to-no raised bump , but theyre always tender and sore, so youll know if you have one lurking somewhere. Sometimes, blind pimples can look slightly red or brown, depending on your skin tone, but mostly, theyre just an under-the-skin, painful lump you can feel.
According to Dr. Yadav, blind pimples can form when a mix of bacteria and excess sebum clog a pore and cause inflammation below the skin. Which, you know, is similar to how all cystic zits for. So whats the difference? Welp, unlike other breakouts, blind pimples are not at the skins surface, but deeper in the skin at the subcutaneous level, Dr. Yadav notes. And that, my friends, is why theyre impossible to pop, slow to heal, and pretty painful to deal with.
Are blind pimples hormonal?
Yes, blind pimples are triggered by hormones, so theyre often more likely to appear during hormonal fluctuations, whether thats due to your period or if youre receiving testosterone therapy. You may also just have hypersensitive hormone receptors that trigger breakouts, regardless of the timing . Whatever the case, these hormones can tell your body to overproduce oil, allowing bacteria to grow and inflammation to ensue, says Dr. Lal.

How To Get Rid Of Cystic Acne: Treatments And Tips

This is one step you’re probably already practicing, but we’ve got to include it: wash your face! “It is important to cleanse the skingentlyonce or twice a day, to help remove any makeup, sunscreen, oil, or bacteria that could contribute to breakouts,” says Dr. Geraghty. “For anyone with pimples or cystic nodules, its important not to rub or scrub too hard when youre cleansing this can scratch or break the skins barrier and can actually contribute to scarring.”
Here are the mild, non-irritating cleansers that Dr. Geraghty recommends to her acne-prone patients:
Moisturizing is another key way to protect and smooth your skin, and heal acne marks. Choose a moisturizer that’s labeled “noncomedogenic,” which means it won’t clog your pores . “Soothing moisturizer ingredients include ceramides, dimethicone, and glycerin. And if you see any product that contains coconut oil, put it away, or save it for areas that dont tend to have acne, like the hands, feet, or legs. Coconut oil is known to clog pores and worsen acne,” says Dr. Geraghty.
“I recommend a thin layer of topical adapelene gel to the facial skin at bedtime. This can help to prevent and treat small bumps, little whiteheads and blackheads. Mixing benzoyl peroxide gel with adapalene at bedtime is a good combination treatment to help not only with breakouts, but with the dark marks and scars pimples can leave behind,” says Dr. Geraghty.

How Dermatologists Treat Severe Acne
When a patient has severe acne, a dermatologist often recommends treating it with one of the following.
Antibiotic + medicine you apply to the acne: This is often the first treatment recommended for severe acne. Taking an antibiotic can reduce the redness and swelling of acne. The medicine you apply to your skin works on reducing bacteria and clogged pores.
If this treatment fails to clear your skin, your dermatologist may switch your antibiotic or talk with you about isotretinoin .
Isotretinoin: This is a potent medicine that attacks all four causes of acnebacteria, clogged pores, excess oil, and inflammation . About 85% of patients see permanent clearing after one course of isotretinoin.

My Results After 5 Days
Yes, these two photos are taken only five days apart from each other!
The first photo was taken in the evening after my cleanse, exfoliating treatment, and La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 as a moisturizer, and the second photo was taken as soon as I woke up in the morning with nothing but a moisturizer from the previous night and Purito Unscented SPF 50 on top.
My skin always tends to look nicer and glowier in the mornings which is why I rarely use a cleanser. On most days, I just slather SPF on and I move on about my day.
You can notice from my tips mentioned above that I like to focus on improving a problem thats not only skin-deep and is a bit more complex.
Having a good skincare routine is essential, but there is no such thing as one holy grail product that will do all the hard work for you.
Your skin will only start transforming once you complete your skincare routine with a balanced diet, good water intake, healthy physical and mental habits, and a lot of self-love.
Doing all this will help your skin look and feel better in less than a week. This is how I healed my cystic acne in five days, and I hope you will enjoy the same results I did after reading my article!

How Is Cystic Acne Managed Or Treated
Acne cysts can be difficult to treat. Because they can scar, you should seek help from a dermatologist instead of trying over-the-counter acne products. A dermatologist can teach you how to treat cystic acne.
It can take three months or more to clear up acne cysts. Treatment often involves taking oral antibiotics and applying prescription-strength topical gels or creams to the skin.
Cystic acne treatments include:
- Antibiotic creams, gels solutions and lotions to kill bacteria and decrease inflammation.
- Azelaic acid or salicylic acid to kill bacteria and get rid of excess dead skin cells.
- Benzoyl peroxide to reduce the number of bacteria on the skin.

What Are The Symptoms Of Acne
The symptoms of acne include:
- whiteheads small white spots under the surface of the skin
- blackheads small, blocked pores with a black plug
- pimples inflamed red spots which can have yellow pus in the middle
- nodules large red bumps under the skin which can be painful
These symptoms are most commonly seen on the face, but acne can also affect the back, chest, shoulders or neck.
Severe acne can cause scarring for example, when there is deep or severe inflammation of nodules.
Occasional spots or pimples are not considered to be acne.
What Happens If You Pop A Blind Pimple
If you do try to pop or squeeze a blind pimple, youll just push all of the inflammation even further into your skin, creating an explosion of inflammation, says Dr. Lal. Not only that, but trying to pop a blind pimple also introduces new bacteria from either your fingers or whatever tool youre using, which can increase inflammation and lengthen the time it takes for your pimple to go away, all of which ups your risk of scarring.
Even worse, Dr. Lal explains that because blind pimples are so deep under the skin, theres collagen and scar tissue around it trying to help heal it from the inside. When you try to break open the pimple by popping it, you can end up pushing the inflammation below that scar tissue, making the pimple feel smoother, but still just as painful and likely to come back. So, yeah, just pls, dont try to pop it.
How do you get rid of a blind pimple fast?
If you want to get rid of a blind pimple fast, youre going to have to face some disappointing news: A blind pimple wont go away overnight, or even over a few nights. Even the most effective treatments take up to five days to start working, which is why prevention is key when it comes to cystic and inflammatory acne .

Dairy Also Does More Harm Than Good
Dairy products have long been a suspected link to acne. Cows create milk containing casein and whey for their baby calves. But when we drink this milk, it releases that IGF-1 hormone. And higher levels of IGF-1 means greater prevalence of acne.
Additionally, it’s been suspected that the hormones in milk interact negatively with your personal hormones. This can confuse the body’s endocrine system, resulting in a breakout.
