What Is The Best Diet For Women With Menopausal Acne

How to Get Rid Rid of Acne Scars Completely!

Most dermatologists agree that diet plays a role in acne. Although the exact effect of food on acne is not apparent, it disbelieved that reducing cows milk dairy and high glycemic food and refined carbs can help with acne treatment and reduce the frequency and severity of acne breakouts.

Try to limit alcohol and caffeine and ditch the junk food. To improve your skin and reduce your acne breakouts, look for foods rich in the fatty acids omega-3 and 6, such as oily fish and chia and flaxseeds, and fill your diet with whole-grain, fiber-rich products. Cruciferous vegetables such as spinach, cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower are beneficial because they contain a DIM compound that helps with hormonal balance. You can also look for DIM supplements .

Drink a lot of water. Dehydration makes your skin rough and dry. When the skin too dry, the skin oil glands produce more oil to moisturize the skin. The excess of skin oil mixed with the dead skin cells clog the skin pores and can cause more acne.

Acne Scar Treatment No : Wear Spf

It might seem like the simplest way to get rid of acne scars and we bang on about it a lot but SPF really does solve all your skin troubles. Not only does it protect against the dreaded sun damage but it helps avoid the more long term risk of skin cancer and, in turn, the marks it can leave on your skin.

But SPF is never more crucial than when youre using acids, retinol or extensive treatments that can leave your skin vulnerable. ‘The skin is more vulnerable to damage and pigmentation change following acne treatments such as IPL laser and even using products that contain AHAs and BHAs and pigmentation spots can potentially get worse is SPF is not applied,’ says Dr. Mahto.

So SPF up ASAP.

Acne Marks Vs Acne Scars

Most pimples leave behind evidence. Our hope is that their marks are superficial. If your skin remains smooth in dark or red areas, you simply have an acne mark. Those marks are not scars they are just temporarily discolored. It usually takes 3-6 months for the marks to disappear.

However, if you have a scar, youre dealing with permanent skin damage that needs treatment in order to disappear. An acne scar changes the texture of the skin. If acne has left indentations, or raised spots, the damage has occurred at a deeper level in the skin. This cobblestoning effect indicates scarring that needs more than a surface-level treatment.

Scars form because collagen fills in damaged skin areas in a column pattern that mimics the wound. The collagen binds the skin, but it also pulls the skin down and contracts it making it a different texture from surrounding skin.

In scar treatments, we break up the collagen. Then, as it re-grows, it comes back more randomly and the web of collagen produces smoother skin. If youre living with scars, we have two primary treatments for breaking up the collagen and rejuvenating your skin.

Overview Of Acne Scarring

Types of acne scars include keloid, hypertrophic, and atrophic. Atrophic acne scarring is by far the most common form, especially on the face . Atrophic acne scars can be broadly categorized as rolling, ice-pick, shallow boxcar, or deep boxcar . Histologically, atrophic acne scars exhibit thinning of the skin and loss of collagen, elastin, and deep dermal fat resulting in a downward pull of the epidermis . In the case of deep cystic acne lesions, inflammatory mediators destroy facial fat while the size of the lesion itself can leave a void after its involution that cannot be filled by surrounding subcutaneous tissues. Rather, the tissues may be drawn in from surface layers, an effect worsened by the contracture of the scarring around the cysts. In such cases, a patients appearance can actually worsen after the cystic acne is brought under control by isotretinoin or other successful treatments .

Do Hormonal Changes Cause Acne On The Chin

The most common cause of chin acne and breakouts around the mouth and jawline is hormonal fluctuations related to the menstrual cycle. While these fluctuations in hormone levels are totally normal, problems can arise when these fluctuations get out of whackspecifically, when the endocrine system produces an excess of androgens, a group of hormones typically found in higher levels in males than females. These excess androgens can over-activate the sebaceous glands, which then overproduces oil and, ultimately, causes acne breakouts .

At what point in the menstrual cycle do women get breakouts?

Some women experience breakouts during ovulation , while others have pimples pop up before or during menstruation.

  • Ovulation: During ovulation, higher progesterone levels stimulate the oil glands and rev up sebum production , causing pores to get clogged.

  • Menstruation: During pre-menstruation, estrogen and progesterone levels drop, causing even higher levels of sebum production, often causing more inflamed breakouts. These normal hormonal fluctuations are often exaggerated , causing more significant skin behavior changes and, ultimately, more numerous, severe, and inflamed breakouts.

Sorting Through The Myths

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States, affecting 40-50 million people, and its also the least understood. If you do an internet search for treating acne, you get over 32,000,000 search results in under two seconds. Rather than wading through an internet search, here are a few facts about acne:

For years, many people believed that what you ate contributed to acne, especially chocolate. The fact is that theres very little evidence that ties diet to acne, which doesnt mean to say that what you eat doesnt influence or worsen your acne, but theres scant research to back up that claim.

As well, your hygiene doesnt appear to play a role in acne. Yes, you should keep your skin free from dirt, but trying to scrub away acne may actually make it worse by irritating the condition. The bottom line is that acne may be aggravated by excessive dirt, grime, and sweat, but hygiene doesnt cause acne in the first place.

Adopt A Good Shaving Regimen

What causes acne around the mouth? – Dr. Aruna Prasad

Shaving can irritate the skin and clog the pores, potentially leading to breakouts. Change razor blades regularly, as old blades can harbor bacteria. Rinse the razor after every stroke, and allow the razor to dry after use to prevent a buildup of bacteria.

Also, choose a gentle shaving foam or gel to reduce the risk of irritating the skin.

Cleaning the face before and after shaving can reduce the chance of bacteria getting into the pores.

Acne Scar Treatment No: Retinol

Also known as vitamin A, retinol goes hand in hand with anti-ageing treatments but can also be used to unclog pores and fade scars. Its a more gradual treatment but is popular for leaving skin looking brighter and smoother.

Associate Professor of Clinical Dermatology at USC, Keck School of Medicine, Dr Nada Elbuluk explains the benefits: ‘Many darker skin patients who develop dark spots also known as hyperpigmentation, may refer to them as “scars”. For others, acne scars can refer to textural changes in the skin such as indentations and uneven skin texture. If it’s the former, then we often treat with products such as retinoids which can help with evening out skin tone and treating acne. If it’s more of a textural change, retinoids can also help but typically a resurfacing treatment is also needed’.

Avoid if you have rosacea – it can upset and irritate.

Do trybakuchiol – it’s a natural alternative rich in vitamin C and E that works to provide the same brightening results.

How Do Acne Scars Differ From Post

Post-blemish marks are another type of skin concern that may develop after a breakout. Unlike acne scars, these spots arent raised or depressed, but flat. Theyre characterized by discoloration around the area of the original blemish and are caused by an overproduction of melanin, your skins natural pigment. They can affect anyone but are most common for those with darker skin tones. While theyre sometimes referred to as acne scars, post-blemish marks arent true scars but a type of skin discoloration . They typically fade on their own with time and affect the skin tone rather than its texture.

Treatments From Your Gp

See your GP if your acne is more widespread, as you probably need prescription medication. For example, if:

  • you have a large number of papules and pustules
  • over-the-counter medication hasn’t worked

Prescription medications that can be used to treat acne include:

  • topical retinoids

Several treatments for acne don’t involve medication.

These include:

  • comedone extractor a small pen-shaped instrument that can be used to clean out blackheads and whiteheads
  • chemical peels where a chemical solution is applied to the face, causing the skin to peel off and new skin to replace it

However, these treatments may not work and can’t be routinely recommended.

What Causes Acne Scars

Acne scars are caused by inflammatory acne lesions, such as papules , pustules , or cysts. According to Chang, there are several factors that contribute to the risk of developing scars. First, it may be genetic: if you have family members who have acne scars, you’re at a higher risk of developing them too. Your skin type also affects the types of scarring. Chang says those with lighter complexions may be more prone to acne erythema after inflammatory acne, while those with darker complexion patients may be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or brown blemishing.

It’s obvious but bears repeating: don’t even think about touching a pimple.

Davis agrees and explains that melanocytes behave differently in darker skin because they are very sensitive to inflammation. She says that someone with fair skin may experience some pinkness or redness for a short period of time whereas those with darker skin will often have a brown spot or PIH that can linger on for months.

It’s obvious but bears repeating: don’t even think about touching a pimple. We tend to cause excess trauma that will worsen inflammation, resulting in scars. Chang says to avoid harsh scrubs and skincare products that can further irritate skin and to stop picking, popping, and squeezing acne as that will exacerbate inflammation. She warns that excess sun exposure can make acne blemishes darker, yet another reason to wear SPF 30 or higher every single day .

Creams Scrubs And Prescriptions

  • 1Exfoliate daily with a mild facial exfoliant. The exfoliant will lift dead skin cells, and over time it may fade the dark areas around your mouth. You can use a chemical or a physical exfoliant. Chemical exfoliants can be better for treating dark areas because they do not stimulate the skin like a physical exfoliant, which can exacerbate the problem.
  • You can find chemical exfoliants and facial scrubs in drugstores, grocery stores, and bath-and-body stores. Read reviews of a product before you buy it. Some scrubs may be sold to treat acne and other skin conditions these scrubs often use acids and chemicals to deep-clean your skin.
  • 2Use an over-the-counter skin-brightening cream. You can find moisturizing, skin-brightening pigment products in drugstores and beauty-product stores. Find a cream that contains Vitamin C, kojic acid , arbutin , azelaic acid , licorice extract, niacinamide, or grapeseed extract: these ingredients help to block the enzyme tyrosinase, which your skin cells need to produce melanin. Spread a thin layer of the cream around your mouth. Follow the instructions, and donât use these skin-lightening products for more than three weeks.
  • Kojic acid is a popular treatment, but it can irritate sensitive skin. Be careful.
  • If you have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant, avoid using azelaic acid, which comes from wheat.

3 Tips for Acne Around Your Mouth #shorts
  • 1Understand why you have dark spots around your mouth. These spots result from high amounts of skin-darkening melanin in certain areas of your skin. This melanin can be set off by triggers from inside and outside your body. This melanin condition is called hyper-pigmentation. The triggers might include sun exposure, melasma, and skin inflammation.
  • Sun spots: These dark brown clusters can take months, or even years, to show up in sun-exposed areas. Once they show up, they usually don’t fade unless you treat them. This pigment shift stays near the surface of the skin, so you can treat it with creams and scrubs. Use sunscreen daily to prevent sun spots or to keep them from getting worse.
  • Melasma : These dusky, symmetrical spots stem from hormone changes during birth-control use or pregnancy. When these hormones combine with sun exposure, dark spots can appear on the cheeks, forehead, and upper lip. This form of hyper-pigmentation tends to return easily, even if you treat it.
  • Post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation: You may get dark spots that linger after a burn, pimple, or other skin abrasion. This is especially common in darker skin tones but can happen to anyone. In this case, the melanin is deep within your skin, and the dark spots may take six to twelve months to fade.XResearch source

Merits & Demerits Of Lip Balms

Lip balms play role as amazing sunscreens. They act as a barrier and protect your lips from the hazardous rays of the sun. Such lip balms contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to prevent ultra violet rays. The biggest benefit is that they moisturize your lips and counteract dryness.

A good quality lip product always contains Petroleum Jelly. Petroleum moisturizes and possesses healing qualities that are vital for cracked lips.

Apart from this, using balms that contain phenol, menthol or salicylic acid help when you need to get the dry layers of your lip skin to be peeled off so that new layer of skin supersedes. On the contrary, they might cause you a tingling feeling which is due to the protective layers of the skin being peeled off. So, its not good for use in the long run.

Coconut oil is the most comedogenic oils present. Hence, you might catch up lip acne if youre using a lip product that contains coconut oil.

Craig Austin,MD, the founder of Acne+Austin says, Coconut is one of the thicker oils, & the thicker the oil, the harder it is to get adequately absorbed by your skin, so it essentially sits at the top of dermis & forms a film over pore. Bacteria & dead cells will then fester under skin causing acne.
