Figure Out If The Bump Is A Pimple Or An Ingrown Hair
It’s important to note the difference between vulva acne, an ingrown hair, and something more serious like an STD. First, don’t jump to conclusions if you notice bumps down thereespecially if you havent been sexually active or have been practicing safe sex. Ingrown hairs, can cause folliculitis, a.k.a. an inflamed hair follicle, explains Dr. Goodstein. This occurs either after shaving or waxing. They can look similar to other body acne, with whiteheads and all . “With the multitude of women pursuing hair removal options, I see folliculitis quite frequently,” says Dr. Goodstein. Compared to ingrown hairs, vulvar acne can be more uncomfortable and cause distress if you have it. The bumps contain more fluid, or sebum, too.
“It can be challenging to know the difference between a vaginal pimple versus an ingrown hair, sebaceous cyst, or wart,” says Dr. Ross. “Using a mirror can give you a close-up to try and figure it outbut it can be difficult .” When in doubt, always consult an OB/GYN.

What Are The Symptoms Of A Boil In The Vaginal Area
Again, vagina boils are red, puss-filled and bulbous lesions, Dr. Dweck says, likely resembling a large pimple on your nether regions.
When it comes to symptoms, youll likely feel a vagina boil before you see it, per se. Physically they will likely feel painful or bruise-like, Dr. Dweck says, and might also be inflamed and come in multiples rather than just a single boil.
Can I Pop It
You should resist the urge to pop these pimples because:

You Cant Really Do Anything To Prevent Them
If the vulvar acne is presenting itself as an abscess, they usually go away on their own within a few days. Unfortunately, Dr. Shainhouse says you cant really prevent them. The good news is, there are ways to manage it. For instance, you can try applying a warm compress for comfort and to help it drain if its ready to do so. But if it hurts too much to sit, walk, or even wear underwear, you may need to see a dermatologist. They can have it lanced, if its ready or injected with mild steroid to reduce the inflammation, she says. Sometimes you might need an oral antibiotic for a few days.
How Long Does It Take For A Vaginal Boil To Go Away
In short, a vaginal boil will typically take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to go away. It may disappear on its own or, like a pimple, it may even come to a head, Dr. Dweck says.
A boil may even pop completely on its own, excreting a whitish, pus-like material, she says. At times you might find blood coming out of it. If this happens, be sure to disinfect the area, apply healing ointment like Neosporin and, if possible, cover the boil with a bandage.
Definitely avoid any further hair removal at this point, as it can only further irritate your vaginal boil situation. Youll likely need to wait for the boils pus to drain completely before you notice any healing occurring, Dr. Dweck notes.

Instead, use a warm compress to relieve discomfort, wear loose pants and underwear so youre not restricting the area, and give it time to heal, Dr. Ross says. As mentioned, you can also apply a topical antibiotic ointment and cover it with a bandage to speed up the process, Dr. Dweck says.

What’s The Difference Between A Pimple Down There And An Ingrown Hair
Turns out, there isn’t much of a distinction at all.
Traditionally, a pimple is just an inflamed area of skin filled with pus, which is a result of an oil gland getting infected with bacteria. They’re caused by over-activity by oil glands, which are located at the base of a hair follicle.
According to Dr. DeLucia, an ingrown hair is the same as a pimple, but it also has a hair inside. That’s why your ingrown hairs get all nasty and red â they just have a little baby hair that hasn’t emerged from its skin cocoon.
First Know What Youre Dealing With
Before going into battle, its always best to know who your opponent is. In the case of period acne, this means knowing how to differentiate a hormonal break out from a regular one.
The easiest way to do this is to look at the timing. Acne thats related to your period is more likely to flare up during the week leading up to your period or during your period. Plus, it tends to clear up or improve when your period is ending or over.
Already have acne? You might notice that it gets worse during this time. If you tend to have clear skin, you might notice a pimple or two pop up.

Pimples Are Fairly Undesirable But Even More So When They Appear Down There But Are Zits In The Vaginal Area Something To Worry About Lets Find Out
It might trigger a full-blown panic attack, but heres the thing about that pimple on your vagina: its mostly normal! Yes ladies, you might be surprised to know this but getting pimples or bumps below the belt is absolutely alright and not a cause of worry.
You see, pores in your vulval area are just as prone to build-up of dirt and oil, which then causes pimples. Even if they are pink or red and filled with white pus, its nothing to be panicked about.
But what causes these insidious pimples? Well, they can happen for a number of reasons, ranging from tight clothes and lack of hygiene to hormonal imbalance.
Here are the other reasons why you are getting pimple-like bumps in the area:
1. Razor burns It is very common to experience razor burns if you shave your vulvar region especially, if you dont use shaving cream. The pimples that appear are red in colour, usually appear in clusters, and can be quite itchy.
The good news is that razor burns can be avoided by using coconut oil or shaving cream. Using aloe vera gel or a moisturising cream once youre done can also calm the sensitive area and avoid razor burn from cropping up.
3. Folliculitis This refers to the infection of the hair follicle. While a pimple happens because of the buildup of dirt in the skin pore, folliculitis occurs when the very hair follicle develops an infection due to sweat or bacteria present in the area.
