How To Get Rid Of Acne Between Eyebrows

How To Get Rid Of Redness Between Eyebrows

Eyebrow Acne: How I Treat It & What Causes It! | Cassandra Bankson

Hi, I’m currently a freshman in college and around my sophomore year of highschool I became self-conscious of the thickness and length of my eyebrows and started to pluck hairs in between my eyebrows. I also began touching that area more and started developing acne in that area. I also used to have a lot of acne in general but after washing my face with an exfoliate and changing my pillow sheets weekly, it began to go away. However, besides the occasional pimple and leftover acne, my skin has improved except for a consistent redness between my eyebrows that has become extremely annoying. I no longer touch or pick at my face whatsoever. I’m curious if you guys have any advice on how to get rid of this. Thanks Pic:

Edit: No comments so far, is re-posting bad etiquette? Because I’m sure someone might have some ideas.

How Do I Get Rid Of Small Red Bumps In Between My Eyebrows

Doctor’s Answers

Thank you for the question. The small bumps on the forehead do look like clogged follicles or comedones. There are prescription medicines such as tretinoin cream that can help to clear and control these bumps.

Treatments like chemical peels may also help to speed up the resolution if they are persistent.

You should see your doctor to get this evaluated so that the appropriate treatment can be prescribed.

This looks like acne. Acne occurs when the oil glands over-react to normal stimulli. I advise a few cardinal rules to follow before starting treatment.

Your diet can influence how much your acne flares up. Caffeine stimulates your oil glands. The more caffeine you take, the worse your flare-ups will be.

Exposure to extreme hot or cold environments means that blood flow to the skin increases. This will also cause your acne to flare up.

Taking excessively hot or spicy food or drinking alcohol, again, increases blood flow to the skin and can lead to flare ups.

Smoking impairs your healing and prolongs your recovery time post-acne flare-up.

Squeezing them increases the blood flow to the area and worsens the acne afterwards.

You can consider treating with a retinoid cream. A second generation retinoid cream such as adapalene will break down the trapped sebum that is trapped inside and helps clear the dead skin cells blocking the pores. I like to dispense vitamins B3 serum to help further control the oil production.

Waxing Or Threading Your Eyebrows

Poor hair removal can also lead to formation of painful, large pimples on eyebrow. The bump may result in damaging the hair follicles or an ingrown hair that forms when hair grows back to the skin.

When threading, to prevent the formation of these pimples, do the following:

  • apply a warm compress to numb the area before threading
  • avoid touching the eyebrows immediately after threading
  • after shaving, waxing or threading, apply a cold compress to soothe your skin from itching
  • also, wash your wash with lukewarm water then apply a mild petroleum jelly

The glabellar area is actually a very common place for people to break out, says Lee. This is because its part of your T-zone . The T-zone is one of the oiliest areas of your face because it has the highest concentration of sebaceous glands.

Sebaceous glands empty into your pores and can clog your hair follicles causing inflammation. So, if you notice, acne really only occurs where there are hair follicles and not so much on the non-hair-bearing areas of your skinlike the palms of your hands, soles of your feet, or along your mucous membranes , says Lee.

And one of most common culprits for between the brow bumps isdrumrolltweezing. Or waxing. Or really any of the hair removal you do to keep that unibrow in check. As Lee further explains: When you pluck your hair, you pull it out at the root. As it grows back, it needs to grow a little bit under the skin before it projects beyond the surface. If the incoming hair gets trapped underneath the skin during this process, it becomes ingrown, and appears as a pimple-like bump.

This is especially the case for people with thick or curly hair, adds Chwalek, as this type of hair is more likely to bend back and get trapped under the surface causing folliculitis or the aforementioned inflammation of the hair follicle.

Pustules: Small, pus-containing bumps that commonly form on the face. These are often red and tender and usually form as a result of bacteria and oil. “In certain circumstances, oil gland activity in the T-zone area may be higher than elsewhere on the skin, and with that activity may come increased incidence and severity of breakouts in acne-prone individuals,” explains Kraffert.

Papules: A solid elevation of the skin that contains no visible fluid, which forms from excess oil and bacteria. These could come about as a result of a reaction to something like an eyebrow wax .

Cystic acne: Schaffer points out that things like hormones, bacteria, dead-skin-cell buildup, and environmental factors like smoke, ingrown hair, overproduction of oil, makeup, and diet can play a key role when it comes to pimples, spurring cystic acne.

When Does This Occur

  • The risk of ingrown hair will increase when the eyebrow hair is cut at very sharp angles or even cut edge of hair is left underneath the skin.
  • Your hair is made of a protein known as keratin. It passes through the hair follicles and then breaks through the skin.
  • In other cases, the hair grows when slanted into the skin instead of the normal breaking through horizontally.

When all this occurs it is considered as ingrown hairs. Also, ingrown hairs may develop when the hair curls backward instead of the way it is supposed to push out through the skin. When the hair is trapped within the skin it leads to inflammation, pain, and even irritation at the site.

Causes And Prevention Of Acne Between Eyebrows

Excess oil: As Kraffert emphasizes above, the fundamental issue that leads to acne between the eyebrows is the blockage of ducts due to excess oil. “It’s what happens after this blockage occurs that determines the type of acne and acne lesions that develop,” Kraffert adds.

Eyebrow-waxing: It’s important to take precautions in how your skin is reacting to the method you’re using. For example, if you’re waxing, according to Schaffer, that can very well be the reason you’re breaking out between your brows. “One of the best-kept secrets for preventing acne between the eyebrows is replacing waxing with sugaring,” she recommends. “Sugaring encompasses three ingredients to remove the hair and avoids causing inflammation or harm to the pulled skin. Versus if you wax, it contains several ingredients and causes harm and redness to the skin. Just note that some estheticians prefer to exfoliate prior to starting the sugaring process, which can inflame skin .”

Diet: Your diet could be causing a domino effect with your liver and your T-zone area. In addition to trying a different grooming method, you should make some healthier choices with your diet , which can help make a difference. Kraffert brings up the importance of maintaining a diet that incorporates fatty, omega-rich fish, such as salmon, which support skin health . And he says milk consumption, especially skim milk, is correlated with an increase in acne risk.

What To Consider When Using Your Epilator

When youre ready to get to the main event and epilate your skin finally, there is one extra thing you should be cautious about.

That is, although some people prefer using a wet epilator so they can use it while theyre still in the shower, others opt to dry their skin first and then use a dry epilator.

While the choice is all yours regarding which method you prefer more, knowing that it takes longer to remove hair when youre under the shower than using your epilator on dry skin can help you make a more informed decision.

Moreover, its best to realize that your skin may tend to be more sensitive afterward if you epilate on wet skin.

Therefore, if youre using your epilator for the first time or still arent used to the post-epilation irritation, its best to dry your skin first and then use your epilator.

Furthermore, as for the type of product you should choose, its primarily a matter of personal choice and, of course, your skin type. What works for one person may not be the best choice for someone with a different skin texture.

However, if youre looking for a new epilator to use for the first time, its best to shop for a cordless dry and wet epilator to maximize your choices of using the tool.
