How to Get Rid of Acne Scars: TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum

What youre all here for right? So lets get down to the bottom of does vitamin c help with acne? First we will go over what vitamin c is and what causes acne, then dig into the link between using vitamin c to help with acne.

What Is Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a potent anti-oxidant that will neutralize free radicals so they cannot damage your skin. Free radicals come from things like pollution and sunlight. Without anti-oxidants like Vitamin C, free radicals can cause oxidative stress in our bodies, which cause things like DNA damage, and in turn, skin damage.

This skin damage is responsible for aging skin, fine lines, wrinkles, dull skin and more. Additionally, this free radical damaged causes lots of skin inflammation. Inflammation is a key factor in acne.

Vitamin C neutralizes these free radicals before they get a chance to harm us! For this reasons, its one of the best anti-aging ingredients you can use in your routine. And, since its proven to be an anti-inflammatory, it can also help with reducing acne.

What Is Acne & What Causes It

Acne begins in our pores, which are made up of an oil gland and a hair follicle. The oil glands produce oil to naturally help moisturize and protect our skin. However, sometimes those oil glands can produce too much oil and cause clogged pores.

So, the main contributors to acne are:

  • oil production

Does Vitamin C help acne that are caused by these three things?

Vitamin C & Inflammation

Not necessarily.

Food Sources Of Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an antioxidant, which may help fight inflammation and free radicals in your skin all which may contribute to acne.

Most people can get enough vitamin A through diet alone. The following foods are rich in vitamin A:

  • orange and yellow vegetables, such as carrots and sweet potatoes
  • cantaloupe
  • salmon
  • beef liver

Overall, though, the AAD says theres no specific diet proven to treat acne. The only exceptions are to avoid sugar and dairy, which could possibly aggravate breakouts in people who are already prone to acne.

Getting enough vitamin A in your diet can help promote overall skin health, but its not likely to treat acne alone. Instead, focus on a balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables for healthier skin.

How To Use A Vitamin C Serum For Oily Acne

How does Vitamin C Serum help to reduce your acne scar ...

Theres no proof that Vitamin C causes acne. In fact, it may even help treat it faster!

And yet, many of my clients with oily, acne-prone skin complain their acne got worse after introducing a Vitamin C serum into their skincare routine.

Science cant explain why. But I dont believe in waiting around doing nothing while science catches up with real skin problems.

Instead, lets find a way to make Vitamin C safe for you, too. Enter Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate .

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a derivative of Vitamin C . When it sinks into your skin, enzymes come along to convert it into L-Ascorbic Acid.

A study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science shows that Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate can treat acne vulgaris. How?

Acne is caused by two major factors:

  • Bacteria: Proprionibacterium Acnes, or P.Acnes for short
  • Lipid oxidation: when your sebum oxidises, your skin becomes inflamed

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate deals with both. 1% of SAP reduces the amount of P.Acnes on your skin, while 5% prevents lipid oxidation in the first place.

Can Vitamin C Help With Older Scars

Vitamin C is involved in all phases of the wound healing process, particularly because collagen cannot be produced without vitamin C. Collagen is found in multiple parts of the body, including the skin, and it helps to maintain skin elasticity. It is collagens elasticity and ability to resist infection that helps to close and heal wounds.

Although collagen is most effective when treating new or open wounds, it can also help reduce the appearance of old scars by promoting healthy tissue growth . It is the presence of vitamin C in the skin that will stimulate the production of collagen, thereby softening the wound.

Although this is possible in theory, there is little clinical evidence to support the efficacy of vitamin C in treating old scars, and therefore this treatment cannot be guaranteed.

    How Does It Feel

This is where things get interesting! Like most serums and liquids, you would assume it would feel watery, hydrating, or tacky. To my surprise, it doesnt at all!

It feels like a dry oil!

The serum glides smoothly over the skin, feeling just like a dry oil texture. On that note, I did notice that the product feels as if it is getting warm once it has been applied. This sensation only last several seconds. Apparently, this is normal for the product.

If applied after physically exfoliating the skin, I did notice is can tingle or sting a bit, however, this is normal for any ascorbic acid product. Aside from texture and feeling, the serum absorbs fairly quickly into the skin, generally within half a minute which is pretty good.
