  • This will lightly exfoliate your skin as you cleanse.
  • 5Let it sit on your skin for 5 minutes for extra exfoliation. While its optional, letting the cleanser set like a mask will help it slough off dead skin cells. The mask will soften the dead skin cells, then youll scrub them away while you rinse. Set a timer for 5 minutes and relax for best results.XResearch source

A Cup Of Green Tea May Keep The Acne Away

We already know that drinking green tea has many health benefits due to its antioxidant content. However, a new study conducted by National Yang-Ming University, Taiwan, shows a previously unappreciated health benefits may be clearing up adult acne.

In the study, researchers observed a study group of 80 women between the ages of 25 and 45. Each of the women went into the study suffering from moderate to severe acne. As part of the research, over a period of four weeks, the women were randomly assigned either decaffeinated green tea extract or a placebo to drink daily.

At the end of the study, the researchers discovered that those who drank the green tea extract had less acne around their nose, mouth and chin as well as a significant reductions in total lesion counts.

    Can It Provide Sun Protection

Not only does excessive sun exposure lead to premature aging, but it also increases the risk of skin cancer. Additionally, it can also lead to hyperpigmentation which is a result of UV rays. Since the skin builds up melanin in a certain area in order to protect against the damage done by UV rays, this can cause certain areas to become darker than the rest, leading to the appearance of dark spots.

Because we want to avoid all of that, green tea is an excellent option if you want to protect your skin against the risky effects of sun exposure. Phenols, as Ive already mentioned, are very potent in green tea and they can help repair the damage caused by excessive sun exposure. Besides, regular use of green tea can also protect against sunburn. This is not to say that it can replace sunscreen, though. Make sure you apply sunscreen 20 minutes before exposing your skin to the sun so you can prevent the damage weve already discussed.

In women drinking 1-6 cups per week reduced risk by 21%, 1-2 cups per day reduced the risk by 34%, 3-5 cups per day by 39% and 6 or more cups by 51%.

Is There Fluoride In Your Tea

All About Green Tea for Acne: Why It Works, How to Use It & More

When I came across this fact, I was surprised. In my mind, fluoride belongs in toothpaste. But apparently, fluoride can turn up in your cup of tea, too!

    How does that happen?

According to experts, the tea plant is known to absorb fluoride from air and soil. And when brewed, fluoride from the leaves can make it to your cup. Take note though that the percent of fluoride varies on the type and quality of tea.

Now what does this mean for acne?

Well, too much fluoride is a cause for concern since it can lead to thyroid problems. Even just a small amount of fluoride in drinking water can affect thyroid hormones. This can lead to a condition called hypothyroidism. With this condition, the thyroid gland doesnt make enough thyroid hormone. And guess whats one of the symptoms of this condition? You guessed it! A-c-n-e, acne.

Now dont go throwing out all your tea leaves yet. All this may seem alarming, yes. But fluoride in tea will have little effect on thyroid function if your diet consists of varied nutrients, especially iodine.

How about acne? Well, with acne and fluoride, its a very YMMV thing. I can drink tea with no acne consequences. But toothpaste with fluoride can sometimes cause me trouble. Some people have great luck with their acne after going fluoride-free. A dermatologist even advices his patient not to use toothpaste with fluoride. The result of that advice: less breakouts near the mouth.

How To Use Green Tea For Acne

If youre ready to try using green tea for acne, you have several different options. A trial and error approach may be the most beneficial. Keep in mind that theres no specific dosing recommendation in place for using green tea for the skin.

Also, although many at-home treatments have anecdotal evidence to back them up, scientific research has not yet proven them to work. Things to try include:

    Green tea mask for acne

    • Remove the leaves from one or two tea bags and moisten them with warm water.
    • Mix the leaves with honey or aloe vera gel.
    • Spread the mixture on the acne-prone areas of your face.
    • Leave the mask on for 10 to 20 minutes.

If you prefer your facial mask to have a more paste-like quality, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the mix, but be mindful that baking soda can strip the skin of its natural oils and may be very irritating.

You can also try placing the tea leaves in a blender or food processor and blending them until they become powder-like.

Apply the green tea mask two times a week.

For a midday pick-me-up, you can drink a cup of iced green tea or add moisture directly to your face using an EGCG-packed green tea facial spritz. Heres one way to make your own:

This mask does get a bit messy with the banana puree, so a face mask brush is appreciated.

    For application follow these instructions:

    1. Cleanse your skin prior to applying a mask.

    2. Using a face mask brush, apply the mask evenly to your face and neck.

    3. **Most important** Remove the clay mask BEFORE it dries. To remove, gently splash water to rehydrate the clay. Then remove with water or face towel.

    4. Follow up with a toner like witch hazel.

    5. Apply a moisturizer. I just got a new oil this week, . So far its wonderful as a bedtime moisturizer after this face mask.

Some redness is perfectly normal after a clay mask. I go over in much more detail any questions about how to use a dry clay mask.
