Sometimesfood sensitivitiesaffect you right after eating, while other times theyre triggered by consuming a certain food with frequency, or in a larger quantity.
Symptoms may include:
- Gas, bloating, and stomach cramps
- Diarrhea or vomiting
Food sensitivities can be caused by:
- The absence of digestive enzymes
- Additives and preservatives in processed foods
- MSG and other food enhancers
- Gluten intolerance
The biggest issue surrounding food intolerances is that if you continue to consume those foods you can develop chronic inflammation in the gut, leading to leaky gut syndrome.

Why You Shouldnt Pay For Food Intolerance Tests
It is a widely held myth that you can test for food intolerances using a blood test.
Studies have shown food intolerance blood test are unreliable and often produce false positive results
Many companies offer blood tests that claim to accurately identify your individual food intolerances and sensitivities. In these tests they take little bit of your blood and test it against several hundred foods. More specifically, they measure how your immune system reacts to the antigens in foods. Based on the immune systems reaction to the food, the test claims that certain reactions mean an intolerance to that food.
While seemingly scientific, these tests are not consistent or accurate and they generate many false results. Also, its common for different labs to produce completely different results.
It is unclear what these immune reactions really mean and if they suggest a negative reaction to a food, a tolerance to a food, or simply just an individuals exposure to that particular food.
A study published in December of 2014 assessed 5 different methods for testing food intolerances in a small sample of subjects who had been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome . The study found that the results between the different types of food intolerance tests were not consistent, nor did they correlate to the foods that the subjects self reported as causing an increase in their IBS symptoms.

Food Allergies And Acne
On the surface, food allergies are simply the body mistaking a harmless food as something that can make you sick. As a result, your immune system reacts to protect you. Since almost any food can trigger an allergy, it can be hard to tie mild symptoms to a particular food. The common reactions include red, swollen, and itchy or dry skin rash. It can also cause red, watery, or itchy eyes.
No doubt, reactions to foods and specific ingredients can also contribute to acne. Inflammation and swelling are prominent allergy symptoms. Since acne can be another form of inflammation, having one can lead to the other.
If you notice bumps appearing on your face after eating a particular food, the best guess is that you have a food allergy. Other symptoms include abdominal pain, difficult breathing, hives, swelling, etc.
For example, gluten is a group of proteins naturally found in grains like wheat, rye, barley, and triticale. Since it is elastic, gluten acts like a glue that holds foods together. Although well-meaning, a reaction against it or gluten sensitivity can contribute to your breakout.
Other food concerns that can aggravate acne include dairy products, eggs, nuts, wheat, fish, soy, etc.
Celiac Disease And Non
In theory, your intestines help break down gluten, resulting in a product known as gliadin. Due to a number of factors, including a genetic predisposition, your body may then create antibodies to the protein as well as some other proteins in the body. This creates the symptoms associated with celiac disease.
Celiac disease and NCGS have similar symptoms. You may have excessive fatigue, foggy brain, and frequent headaches along with gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Skin rashes may also occur.
Unlike NCGS, celiac disease is an autoimmune disease. When people with celiac disease eat gluten, it can cause damage to the small intestine. Its estimated that 1 out of 141 people in the United States has celiac disease. The only way to completely avoid symptoms of either celiac disease and NCGS is to avoid all forms of gluten and gluten-containing products.
Its also possible to have a wheat allergy with or without having celiac disease or NCGS. A wheat allergy may cause gastrointestinal symptoms, as well as skin issues such as rashes and hives. Severe wheat allergies may lead to breathing difficulties and require immediate medical attention.

What Causes Adult Acne
Many teenagers struggling with acne find hope in the fact that their problems will go away once they reach adulthood. Sadly, this is not always the case. Clinical studies show that as much as 55 percent of the adult population is affected by low-grade, persistent acne.
More shockingly, adult acne seems to be on the rise. But what are the causes of adult acne?
In the same way that changing hormones cause acne during puberty, hormone fluctuations in adulthood can trigger breakouts as well. This is most commonly linked to predictable factors like the menstrual cycle, though taking oral contraceptives and other medications can affect your hormones as well.
Poor facial hygiene is another factor that influences adult acne. Over-washing your face can dry out your skin, causing it to produce excess sebum which clogs your pores and triggers breakouts. Using the wrong skincare products for your skin type may also be a factor, as can exposure to pollution and other environmental toxins.
Perhaps the one of the most common causes of adult acne, however, is stress.
An article published by The International Dermal Institute suggests that chronic, continual stress triggers inflammation and hormone fluctuations which affect sebum production. The article also suggests that rising stress levels in women can partially be attributed to changing gender roles and increased pressure to work outside the home while also caring for a family.
How Long Does Allergy Acne Last
Hives and other allergic reactions usually go away on their own within a few days. However, if the symptoms are severe, you may need medication.
Acne caused by allergies can last for weeks or even months. It all depends on the type of allergen and how sensitive your skin is to it. If you have seasonal allergies, your acne may go away when the season changes.
On the other hand, if youre allergic to a skincare product, you will only get rid of the allergy acne when you stop using the product.

Blood Test For Allergies
After seeing that I was allergic to so many substances from the skin prick test, my doctor wanted to see what else I was allergic to and get more precise with my results. So he did a blood test and tested for things related to what I reacted to in the skin prick test.
From my own knowledge , blood tests are more accurate than the skin prick test and test for more items.
If getting a blood test is too expensive at your doctors office, then I suggest getting a blood test from True Health Labs . There are labs around the USA that they work with to get your blood sample.
They test over 60 items, which is more than what my own doctor tested for. Also, the turnaround time is 7 days.
Note:Despite having all these tests done, I still tried out various diets for two months at a time to see which one was best for me. I also focused on healing my gut too*, which is essential.
Tests dont fix everything. Your willingness to put in the work for your body does, and hopefully your willingness is how to get rid of acne when nothing works.
I 100% believe that you will have greater reward curing acne from within instead of slapping on topical creams or taking antibiotics. You will feel better too!
*Leaky Gut Syndrome
Leaky gut syndrome is another pseudo-science belief that there are holes in your stomach lining, which allows foreign substances to permeate the stomach and go right into the blood stream, which can make you sick, or in your case, cause acne.

Attack Adult Acne On Multiple Fronts
Use a combination of avoiding foods youre intolerant to and eating more skin-nourishing foods to help deal with stubborn adult acne. If youre going through an unexpected flare-up, try commencing an elimination diet to identify potential problem foods.
Its recommended that your elimination diet lasts for at least 4 weeks, to allow time for your body to flush out the offending foods and see the benefit. Afterwards, you can try reintroducing foods individually to see how your body handles them individually.

Can Diet Trigger Acne
For some people, acne can appear at random. They may never have had a problem with their skin in their teenage years, but in adulthood find that theyre suffering with breakouts. If this is something youre experiencing, it might be a good idea to take a closer look at your diet.
Its commonly assumed that food intolerances only affect the gut, resulting in bloating or IBS. But, in reality, food intolerances can cause a whole host of inflammatory symptoms, including acne and eczema.
Food intolerances are often blamed on the usual suspects, such as gluten or dairy. While these foods are commonly associated with food intolerance, each case is individual and its not unusual to discover that you have some unexpected triggers in your diet.

Cutting Out Foods Im Allergic To
Can allergies cause cystic acne? I thought this was crazy when I first thought of it but considering I tried everything, I had to answer this question.
I immediately went to the doctors and requested an allergy test to see if I was getting acne from allergies, and WOW!
This was the start of something wonderful or terrible depending on how you view it. I found out that Im allergic to carrots, apples, celery, green beans, hazelnuts, pistachios, peaches, cherries, cats, dogs, dust mites, pollen, cockroaches, and the list goes on and on
Jump down to see which food sensitivity test for acne I took.
This made a ton of sense since every morning for months, partly due to trying to fix my skin full of cystic acne, I drank a homemade, fresh apple, kale, celery, and carrot juice. Then for lunch, I would eat raw tomatoes and green beans. I was eating everything I was allergic to!
Overtime, the stuff I was allergic to was breaking down my stomach lining and messing up my digestive system. Once I cut all the food out that I was allergic to, got off birth control pill, regulated my hormones, and focused on my healing my digestive system, my allergy acne started slowly going away.
In addition to cutting out these foods, I started taking these supplements to balance out my hormones and heal my digestive system:
To improve my gut bacteria, I took Smoky Mountain DIM and BioPerine supplement.
Take Control Of Your Diet
Getting to the bottom of a food intolerance can be frustrating. A common recommendation is the elimination diet, where you remove one food at a time for a few weeks to see how you feel. But this process can take a long time. And, although many of us commonly react to a few different ingredients, the elimination diet is often abandoned when the first trigger food is found, leaving an incomplete picture of whats causing the problem.

USA: 6,094 girls, aged 9 to 15 years old, completed 2 lengthy questionnaires about their diet. The girls who drank the most cow’s milk were more likely to have acne.6
USA: 4,273 boys, aged 9 to 15 years old, completed 2 lengthy questionnaires about their diet. The boys who drank skim milk were more likely to have acne.7
Italy: 205 patients, aged 10 to 24 years old, who were seeing a dermatologist for moderate to severe acne, and 358 patients in the same age range who were seeing a dermatologist for another skin condition were asked what they ate.
