Will It Work On Acne
Calamine lotion may help to treat the symptoms of mild-to-moderate acne in some people. It can dry and minimize pustules caused by inflammatory acne.
Because it doesnt unclog pores or encourage new skin cell growth, calamine lotion is not a strong choice for treating noninflammatory acne lesions such as blackheads. Instead, topical retinoids work to clear the pores and encourage cell turnover.
While calamine lotion could potentially treat the symptoms of active acne by drying up acne lesions and surface oil, it isnt that effective at preventing acne breakouts from occurring in the first place. Targeted acne treatments are far more effective at killing acne-causing bacteria or reducing inflammation.

Psoriasis And Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriasis is a common disorder affecting nearly 2-3% of general population with joint involvement being a common disabling complication. A large armamentarium of drugs ranging from time tested modalities like coal tar and phototherapy, methotrexate, and retinoids to newer biological modalities are being currently used. However, the chronically relapsing nature of the disease has always compelled the researchers to look for novel and safe therapies. Zinc has been tried for the management of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Sadeghian et al. found topical 0.25% zinc pyrithione cream, applied twice daily, effective for localized plaque psoriasis in a randomized double-blind controlled trial. The benefit was attributed to antiproliferative effect of zinc pyrithione. Oral zinc sulphate was found effective for psoriatic arthritis by Clemmensen et al. in a double blind crossover trial versus placebo in 24 patients of psoriatic arthritis. However, oral zinc sulphate did not produce clinically significant improvement as a treatment modality for plaque psoriasis .

Different Ways I Use Calamine Lotion For Acne
There are a few different ways I like to use calamine lotion for acne. As a preventative measure, I use it under my makeup. The moisturizing properties keep my skin hydrated all day long as well as providing a nice base for my makeup. The barrier of calamine lotion between my skin and makeup prevents the makeup from clogging my pores and causing more breakouts.
I love using calamine lotion as a moisturizer because it prevents bacterial infections and improves healing of the skin. Thus reducing the appearance of breakouts. Using calamine lotion for acne is beneficial also because it acts as an anti-inflammatory. If you have any irritated or painful pimples it works wonders! The zinc oxide works to soothe your irritated skin while clearing it up.
If you suffer from deep, cystic acne then calamine lotion can work to bring your impurities out. I just take a finger-tipped size amount and put it on the spots that are most troublesome. I usually let it sit on my skin for at least three hours or overnight before washing it off. This same technique can be used to treat any dark spots or acne scars that pop up too. Just be sure if youre fighting dark spots or scars to do this regularly.

Aloe Vera Is Great For Hydrating Skin And Reducing Inflammation
Applying Aloe Vera on the skin might not sound like an aggressive and effective anti-acne treatment, but you would be surprised by how much aloe helps even out and soothe skin which was previously red and irritated.
Aloe not only heals skin which is stressed, but hydrates it with its high moisture content, helping skin balance itself. The problem is, very few aloe gels are pure, high quality, and fragrance- and colour-free. That’s why we love the Plum Hello Aloe Just Gel. It’s not as thick as most aloe gels, and has the consistency of the aloe pulp we actually get from the plant. It’s unscented, which can be unpleasant for some, but is a boon for damaged and irritated skin because it doesn’t sting skin when it’s already itchy or painful.

Insect Bites And Stings
Calamine lotion is a popular remedy for mild insect bites and stings. It can ease symptoms such as:
However, it is important to note that calamine lotion is not a sufficient treatment for bites and stings that are severe or venomous or could lead to disease. For example, calamine lotion will not prevent a person from contracting Lyme disease after a tick bite.
It is, therefore, important to seek medical advice about any insect bite that could come from a venomous or disease-carrying species.
Some people are allergic to the bites and stings of certain insects, such as bee stings. Emergency help is necessary if a person develops the following symptoms after a bite or sting:
- severe itching and hives
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend using calamine lotion to treat any itchiness. They also note that it is important to avoid scratching, as this can increase the chances of bacterial infection and the transmission of the virus to others. Keeping the fingernails trimmed can help minimize scratching.
People can also try bathing in cool water with some added baking soda, uncooked oatmeal, or colloidal oatmeal. Acetaminophen , which is available OTC, is an option to help reduce pain and fever.
In adults, the varicella-zoster virus can cause shingles, for which people can also use calamine lotion to relieve itching.
